Real Estate in Houston's Near Northside

When people say that an area is "up and coming", it's places like Houston's Near North Side that they have in mind. This area is ripe for investment, or just for picking up that dream home at a bargain price.

If you're looking for homes for sale in the Near North Side, then you're most likely going to find it in either the northwest or southwest quarters. These areas have a range of historic, vintage, and modern homes.

For a start, the Northside Village contains many buildings going back to the early parts of the 20th-century, most being folk-Victorian cottages or farmhouses. These are particularly prevalent nearer to the downtown area and can be recognized by their frame-and-board construction, asymmetrical design, and ornamentation.

Around Northside Villege's northern end, mid-century bungalows and ranchers begin to feature more prominently. In sturdy brick with white trim, these units present the perfect picture of American suburbia, fronting spacious lawns and charming gardens.

Whether old, or really old, the majority of Near Northside homes for sale have undergone extensive refurbishment, from fresh paint to a complete overhaul of all siding and finishes. But D.I.Y. enthusiasts need not despair, there are still many properties available that are waiting for you to apply your own touches.

Elsewhere in the Near Northside, more contemporary buildings are springing up in the form of rowhouses or narrow townhomes. These usually come in modernist styles, defined by clean efficient shapes. Interiors are similarly modern, with beautifully sleek and efficient fittings and finishes.

And if you're looking to develop a lot, or build your own dream home, there are many empty lots available in the south east portion of this neighborhood.

Overall, the Near Northside real estate market offers affordable properties near the heart of downtown Houston. With a fantastic location and a rapidly improving environment, Houston's Near Northside is THE next big property market to watch.
