When you are looking for an Eastwood home for sale you will find a diverse collection of architectural styles, floor plans, and designs. This neighborhood was born near the turn of the century, and it still retains the charisma of this magical era.
Designed and developed in 1911 by homebuilder William Wilson, Eastwood was the first master planned community in Houston. Wilson envisioned an upscale neighborhood that was symmetrically planned with strategically placed live oak and sycamore trees throughout. Eastwood officially opened in September 1913.
All of the homes in Eastwood were custom homes built in Craftsman, Arts & Crafts, American Foursquare, and Mission styles of architecture. In fact, Eastwood has one of the largest collections of such styles, still intact, in all of the US. Some of the later-build homes feature prairie-style influences, which were born from the 20th century Arts and Crafts movement.
By October 1913, Eastwood was already described by the Houston Daily Post as "..a model suburb...one of the most convenient, attractive, and beautiful homesite additions in the city of Houston."
It has had several notable residents over the years, including Howard Hughes (Hughes Tool Company), was is rumored to have stayed with his Aunt on McKinney Street while he was building one his airplanes in a nearby Eastwood street garage.
You can find Eastwood's abundance of historic homes in Houston's East End, bordered Rusk Street to the north and I-45 to the south, and Hughes Street and Sampson Street to the east and west.
Eastwood is also geographically designated as part of Super Neighborhood 64 (Greater Eastwood), which gives residents the opportunity to be active participants with the elected council and stakeholders.
