Grammy nominee and Blues Music Award winner Ruthie Foster will be the concert headliner at the 8th annual Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival on Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14 from 10am-6pm, along The Woodlands Waterway® in Town Green Park. Foster will perform at 3pm on Sunday, April 14 on the Palette Cafe' stage, near The Woodlands Waterway®.
Ruthie Foster, a Texas native, is a consecutive Blues Music Award Winner, winning Best Contemporary and Best Traditional Blues Female Artist of the Year. She was also recently nominated for a Grammy for Best Blues Album, Let It Burn, and in 2009 was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album for The Truth According to Ruthie Foster. She is a multiple winner at the Austin Music Awards, winning Best Female Vocalist in 2007-2008 and Best Folk Artist in 2004-2005.
According the the Los Angeles Times, Foster's newest album, Let It Burn, "is a captivating blend of soul, blues, gospel, New Orleans funk, folk, rock, and R&B."
Other highlights of the festival include the Student Art Scholarship Exhibit, showcasing sward-winning art created by area high school students; Artopoly and Early Inspiration Gallery, for younger children; and The Palette Cafe' & Watercolor Terrace, serving excellent cuisine from area restaurants including Russo's Italian Kitchen & Pizza, la Lupita, Zunum, Mama J's BBQ, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Cold Stone and Crepe Crazy from Austin along with a great selection of beer and wine.
Hubbell & Hudson will be sponsoring "The Art of Food", featuring cooking demonstrations by chefs from area restaurants including Hubbell & Hudson bistro, Chef Austin Simmons and Jaspers, Chef Kent Rathbun from Dallas, and many more.
