lr3059989-21_01If you're thinking about putting your home on the market this spring, now is a good time to check out your home's curb appeal.  After all, first impressions are so very important!

If the yard needs to be mowed, trees trimmed, walkways swept and the cobwebs are covering the doorway, buyers are going to be skeptical about how the home has been maintained and will lose interest in it even before they've gone through the door.  It's very hard to change a first impression.  Likewise, the opposite is true.  If the space from the curb to the house is attractive and well maintained - from the mailbox to the walkway to the flowerbeds to the doorway - buyers will think that the home is well cared for and maintained even if the rest of the home isn't quite as…

rothko_012_400My husband and I were recently looking for something different to do on a Sunday afternoon.  We decided to visit the Rothko Chapel, located at 3900 Yupon Street in Houston.  He had read an article about interesting buildings and art in a Texas Montly Magazine.  I really didn't know what to expect but I do know that what I saw was way beyond anything I could have possibly imagined.  Now, that's neither good nor bad.  I'll leave it up to you.  Here's a little background information on the Chapel:

Frenchmen Dominque Schlumberger and John de Menil left France during WWll and ended up in Houston.  They were civil and human rights advocates as well as leaders in Houston's cultural life, with particular interest in architecture and art.  In 1964, they…

thumbc247921Yes, Houston is hot and I don't mean the temperature.  The Houston Real Estate Market is muy claiente!  Prices are up, inventory down and to top it all off, Forbes Magazine just recently voted Houston "The Coolest City" in America.  Wow!  Let's take a look at what's happening...

Houston has something that other major US cities do not have - jobs.  We saw a 2.6% increase in job growth last year, and nearly 50,000 people moved to the area.  Houston has an unemployment rate of 7%.  The national unemployment rate is 8.3%.  Houston's entertainment options, recreational opportunities, as well as the city's cultural composition has helped shape our city, making it a great place to live, work, and play.

With an increase in the job market and more people…

We're very lucky to be living in the Montgomery County Texas area.  Overall, the housing market is very strong - especially in The Woodlands.  Here, you'll find houses selling in just a few weeks for list price.

But real estate is local.   What might be selling in a short amount of time for list price in one area may not be true for other areas.  Today, most buyers are still looking for a deal. To sell your house in a relatively short amount of time, you will need to price it aggressively.

Lets say I have $100 and I ask who will give me $125 for it?  No one is going to do that!  Who wants to pay more than what its worth?  If I then ask who will give the $100 for it, the same thing will happen.  But, if I ask who will give me $80 for it, many…

Don't be fooled by all the rumors swirling around the Internet and among friends about Obama health care legislation and the 3.8 percent property tax.  Here's what really happened:

The Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 and Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act were signed into law in March 2010.  The acts impose a 3.8  percent investment tax on unearned income above  certain levels to help fund Medicare.  Numerous state attorneys general have filed lawsuits challenging the Acts, and the Supreme Court has heard oral arguments on these Acts.  A decision should be reached sometime this summer.  IF they are to be ruled legal and constitutional, then the following will go into effect on January 1, 2013.

First of all, only…
