With Halloween soon to be a distant memory, families can turn their attention to the next holiday on the bill. Thanksgiving may not have the same glamorous appeal and excitement that is often associated with flashy, in-your-face Halloween, but the holiday has a certain homely and nostalgic charm that many find absolutely intoxicating. More than a time of year to cede to your gluttonous impulses, this holiday is founded on a long tradition of bringing families closer together. Here are 5 Fall and Thanksgiving Events for you and your family to enjoy this season.

5) The Woodlands 19th Annual Children’s Festival, Nov.8th and 9th – The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

This is an event for children ranging in age from kindergarten to grade 5. This fun, kid-centric event is scheduled to take place over 2 days and will feature live children’s entertainers and a wide variety of events for your little one to take part in. Funded in part by ExxonMobil, a number of the events will focus on the science of the oil industry, geology and fossils. There will also be an array of arts, crafts and sports activities to keep them entertained.

4) P-6 Farms Fall Festival, Weekends, Oct.4 – Nov.22 - P-6 Farms, 9963 Poole’s Road, Montgomery, Texas

This family-friendly farm setting features an outstanding a number of fall-inspired events to celebrate this vibrant time of year. The farm features a large corn maze, hay rides and even a pumpkin patch as part of the autumn festivities. P-6 Farms Fall Festival also features an in-ground trampoline, pig racing, and a water cannon. Lots of fun here for the whole family with a special focus on kid-friendly activities.

3) The Ice Rink at the Woodlands, Texas - Open Daily, Nov.22 – January 19 - NE corner of Lake Robbins/Six Pines Drive.

A seasonal favorite, the Ice Rink at the Woodlands is an ice rink set up outside and although simple by design, offers great fall and winter fun for the entire family. Come early as this is a popular event that tends to fill up the very modest ice rink rather quickly. Its $9.50 for a 2 hour skate, $5 for children under 5; all equipment is included in that price.

2) Thanksgiving Champagne Buffet - Nov 27 - The Glass Door Ballroom, The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center

Leave the cooking to someone else this Thanksgiving. The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center pulls out all the stops for its annual Thanksgiving Champagne Buffet. The doors open at 1:00pm and tickets are $52 for adults, $22 for children between 6 and 12, and $15 for children under the age of 5. The event features live music and whole range of holiday favorites including Rotisserie Turkey, Roasted Prime Rib, Bone-in southern cured Ham with Cheddar Au Gratin potatoes and Maple Butternut Squash. Bring your appetite and you're sure to leave satisfied.

1) The 25th Annual Run Thru the Woods Charity - Nov 27- The Woodlands Town center

For the past 25 years, Houston-area residents have been gathering to take part in this fun and large-scale fundraiser on Thanksgiving Day. Eschewing the regular impulse to indulge in gluttony, Run Thru the Woods is designed to fit all fitness levels and dispositions. There are shorter fun-runs for the less gung-ho and also a 5 mile competitive event in 3 divisions. There are cash prizes for the top 3 finishers in each category; as well as an array of special category prizes. Registration is online only - sign up early as there is a cap of 6000 participants set for this year’s event.
